My husband has been a bit slower to take to Essential Oils. This is not an insult, just a simple truth. My passion upon discovering doTERRA and these bottles of plant medicine swelled pretty much right from the start, and while he has always been 100% in support of my passion, because he's awesome like that, he didn't fully or quickly embrace them to the same degree. Come to think of it, he may never quite get to the same place as me, and that is ok. Just as he never asks me to dial it back a bit, I try supremely hard not to ask him to be as into it as I am. All of that being said, I have been watching him unroll his curiosity bit by bit, oil by oil and I love witnessing it. Perhaps because he is so practically minded, he has an even better perspective at times than I, because he truly asks the oil to deliver on its scientific, practical properties, which they do! Whereas I connect so strongly to the unmeasurable, emotional offering each oil brings, that I love using them for what can't necessarily be seen, but felt. And the other day, he came up with a GENIUS use for Cassia oil. He was making coffee and wanted to add in a flavor of some kind. I personally, hate flavored coffee so it's rare that we have it in the house and he wanted something that would make it smell and taste like fall. He went through our oils and came back into the room with Cassia. Cassia is made from the bark of an East Asian Evergreen tree and is in the same family as Cinnamon. It is warm, spicy and strong. We use a one cup, slow pour to make our coffee, so he added two drops right into the grounds and proceeded to pour the water over it. What came out was this INCREDIBLE flavored coffee. It was earthy and almost chocolatey tasting and we both were in love. And as a true hater of fake flavored coffee, it's possible that HE has actually turned ME into a believer in something using essential oils. For those who are like Justin and want to know the practical uses of Cassia: It is - 1. A decongestant 2. Can be used for Cold Extremities 3. Great for when you have an upset stomach 4. Is a way to detox the ears, nose, throat and lungs, especially when sick 5. Amazing for blood sugar balance 6. And enhances Sexual drive (this, I did not know...) 7. Is an antidepressant 8. Improves Circulation 9. Relieves arthritis 10. Relieves Menstrual Symptoms For those who are like me and want to know the emotional properties: According to Emotions and Essential OIls Cassia is The Oil of Self-Assurance It brings gladness and courage to the heart and soul. It is a wonderful remedy for the shy and timid. It helps those who hold back and try to hide. Cassia dispels fear and replaces it with self-assurance. It challenges individuals to try, even when they are afraid of making mistakes. Cassia aids those who feel foolish by helping them see their own brilliance. It supports the soul in seeing its own value and potential. Cassia assists individuals in discovering their innate gifts and talents. It invites them to let their light shine and live from their True Self. Not bad for a cup of coffee! Happy November 1st, or Rabbit Rabbit as some would say at the beginning of each month! For the past month or so I have been receiving a daily blog post in my inbox by the incomparable Seth Godin. Every single morning, when it comes time to check my email, his is one of the first that I go to. Sometimes they are very practical, sometimes they are beautifully deep and sometimes they are simply amusing. I look forward to it every day and it begins my daily information intake with something that often brings out inspiration and thought. One of his latest blogs was challenging those of us who have our own, to post every single day for a few months. He was actually talking about getting to 1,000 posts, which would take just under two years and how it is a habit that produces magic. He says "even if no one reads your blog, the act of writing it is clarifying, motivating and (eventually) fun." Another friend of mine, fellow yoga teacher and awesome social media content provider Laurel Beversdorf also recently spoke about how for the past year, she has made a commitment to post every single day. In that time she has seen incredible results in regards to her business, her teaching and mostly in her connection and interaction with people through the world wide web! Seriously, you should go follow her if you are into interdisciplinary movement, yoga with resistance bands and amazing badass women who lift weights up to and past 40 weeks of being pregnant! So where am I going with all of this? I am sure you can already tell. While I am not quite ready to commit to posting every day for the next year, or aiming my way to 1,000 I am ready to challenge myself to post a blog post every single day for the month of November. I am terrified that after a week I will have nothing to say or lost interest and get bored which really just means that I am afraid to challenge myself because I could fail. And I could. However I have been in a consistent practice lately of really challenging myself to be specific and actionable with goals that I set, so I am going to do it anyways. For the month of November, I will be blogging every single day. What will you see? - Essential Oils - Yoga - Meditation - Parenting - Daily practices, triumphs and struggles. Basically, Me and things surrounding my business that I am working every single day to build and grow. I am excited and I am nervous, but I am doing it. I would love for you to join in as one of my primary reasons for doing this is to actually showcase the positive power that social media brings. IF we choose for it to be so, it can actually connect us rather than isolate us. It has to be real, it has to be authentic and it has to be consistent. So here it goes. Day 1, done. See you tomorrow! and These oils are having a big impact on our family. They are shifting the way we care for ourselves and each other. In just the past 24 hours alone:
Audrey has rolled OnGuard on her feet before walking out the door used the Console emotional blend after saying she felt sad taken her wild orange vitamin and IQ Mega (fish oil) happily in the morning. Asked for her tummy oil when it was feeling upset (DigestZen) Justin has used Deep Blue for some back pain and soreness from running used the Serenity Blend to help fall asleep at night created his own amazing diffuser blend of Bergamot and Cypress this morning used Amavi as his aftershave Rolled Peppermint to alleviate a headache, stress and tension I have used Clary Calm for relief during ovulation DigestZen for an upset stomach Jasmine for my perfume Frankincense during my skin care routine OnGuard spray as my natural hand sanitizer Every day we are each becoming more and more mindful of the things we are putting on our skin, in our bodies and in the air. We are also choosing to name our emotional state more regularly, cultivating awareness so that we may support the way we feel, the way each other feels, or would like to feel in moments when we need it. This is the new reality for our family and we are connecting with each other on a whole new level of awareness and love. It's not perfect, as neither are we, but it is working for us because we are doing the work of making conscious choices. I am taking stock of it this moment, because it has been a truly beautiful and necessary shift for our family. My passion is to help as many families as possible make their own conscious choices. Ones that empower themselves, each other and those around them to be good and do good to each other and our world. I believe it's what we all so desperately need right now and that it is in small daily action that big change occurs. I am so proud to do this work and I want to share it with as many of you as possible. I am asking you, if you have any questions at all to please reach out to me.
