There was a moment standing in front a mirror, my baby crying in the other room, when I decided that it was no longer ok for me not to love myself, fully and as a whole human. For too long I believed the lie of the narrative that I wasn't enough. I didn't want my daughter growing up with a Mama who couldn't give her the gift of confidence, simply because she was lacking it within herself. It is way too precious a life and important responsibility of raising a daughter to continue walking down the road I was on.
In college I studied theatre, constantly curious about the art of playing a human. Post college came yoga and meditation where the curiosity expanded to the art of being a human. Now the work that I am most called to combining it all for the sake of our emotional well-being.
Much of my work is focused around breaking down the harmful ideologies that have been formed within us and the systems we live in through the tools of patriarchy and oppression . Many of these we hold within ourselves, often without our knowing, passed down to us through generations.
When teaching an eMOTION class, working in the Meditation Circle one on one with a client, I only ask for what's real. Perfectionism is a myth and therefore so is the idea that any of us could not be enough at any moment in time. I give my clients and students the space to give themselves the permission to feel so that we can break down old cycles and habits that we are hardwired with.
For me, these cycles and habits showed up in the form of bulimia and disordered eating and exercise, defensiveness and a constant thought loop of self doubt.
I teach using the tools of movement and stillness. eMOTION classes are where we play, breathe, sweat and move the stuck energy through and out of our bodies. The Meditation Circle is where we sit, listen and learn about ourselves and what we want and need.
I have a B.F.A in Humanities and Sciences/Musical Theater, 500+ hrs training and teaching Yoga and Meditation and am currently getting my certification as an Eating Disorder Recovery Coach from the Carolyn Costin Institute.
I believe that the way we change the world around us is through radical self-love. When we learn to love ourselves, our whole selves, we break down the walls and barriers that have been passed down and taught to us.
We are all here to love and be loved.
Let's begin with ourselves.
