Confessions from a recovering power yogi...
I used to believe that our movement practices were supposed to take us to an edge of some kind. That the best way we could grow as humans was to push our bodies to its limit in order to prove to ourselves, and the world, how strong we actually were.
At 38 years old, I no longer hold that belief. I very much love to move my body, but I no longer feel any need to push it past it's limits. I what I now refer to as a "strong advocate for gentleness".
eMOTION has been on this gentleness journey with me. At the beginning, it resembled this "step up to your edge" mindset while I did the work to dismantle myself from the world of power yoga. Over the course of the last 18 months, it has evolved into something that feels much more authentic to how I have always wanted to teach, but didn't have the courage to. Gentle yoga, slow movement and breathing is not the popular kid in the fitness classroom. I find that the more westernized these practices become, the quicker they move, the hotter the room and the more competitive they become in favor of "closing the rings".
I find that slowing down is in fact what people of all ages could do more of. I feel that there is a great deal of productivity in stillness that happens without distraction. And I think that gentleness, in our movement, our thoughts and our actions is actually a way to access a more be conscious way of being in this world. I no longer want to push you to your edge. I think day to day life does that enough as it is. I want to help bring you back to yourself in a way that reminds you that you are a whole human being and that you deserve your own kindness and love. THAT is what will pour out of you and into the space around you. THAT is what will help soften the harshness of living this human existence.
Slow down, get quiet and be gentle.
In the evolution of eMOTION's mission, the delivery method has also changed. No longer do I teach the movement classes live, like in the studio model. Instead, I film a class for you each week and deliver to your inbox. In that same delivery you receive a mini-podcast/newsletter from me and a link to our live meditation session that takes place every Monday night at 8pm EST.
The cost of this subscription of self-care is $40 a month. There is also a free option where you can receive the occasional email/podcast from me from time to time.
I hope you will join me in this gentle revolution where moving our bodies can be much more about taking care of our emotional well-being while being kind and gentle to our selves.
